New Student Employment Centre

Centre for Crowd Management and Security StudiesThe Centre is developing a student workforce to support its industry partners. The workforce will comprise 100 students, who will be trained in crowd management and security, and will be available for work at weekends and in university vacations. In this way they will be able to accredit work based activity to their degree programmes whilst providing a much needed service for the industry partners. The University is also developing a module which is entirely work based and takes place within partner companies. This will enable students to take up a period of full time working and training as part of their course, thus helping to satisfy the Government agenda on employability skills.

Moving into Europe and beyond

Through Eventsec, the accredited crowd management training provider in Ireland, the Centre is rolling out its Foundation Degree and other courses in Ireland. The Centre also provides education and training in Australia, through Sydney University of Technology and the Premier’s Department of the New South Wales Government. The Centre is also providing training and education for festival organisers in Europe, through a partnership with YOUROPE, the European Festivals Managers Association.

The Mojo Barriers Centre for Education and Training

Centre for Crowd Management and Security StudiesThe Mojo Barriers Centre for Education and Training has recently been set up at the University in conjunction with the Centre for Crowd Management and Security Studies. Opened in December 2007, the training centre boasts the only training BLMS barrier in the world, which houses a pressure measuring system. The Centre has worked with Patrick Jordan from Mojo with this barrier in situ at concerts for the past seven years and is now creating a range of programmes to train people in various aspects of barrier design and management.

The barrier which is situated in the White Room at the University can be utilised in front of a state of the art lighting and sound system. This enables those being trained to work under the real conditions experienced at an event. The courses being developed for the Mojo Barriers Education and Training Centre will focus on a range of associated areas, to support the touring of similar barriers throughout the world and also to train students, SU reps and companies in a real life situation.

Consultancy

The Centre offers a range of consultancy opportunities including crowd management, health and safety, close protection, events management, football/sports related safety and security. The team of consultants is drawn from the training providers, who are experts in their fields. Initial enquiries should be made to ckemp01@bucks.ac.uk. The most appropriate person will then contact you to identify your needs and the best way for the Centre to assist you.

Venue and Event Crowd Management and Safety Assessment

The Centre for Crowd Management and Security Studies offers venues a full safety and crowd management assessment, which includes a review of an event. From the assessment, the results are processed, conclusions drawn, recommendations made and a final report written. The assessment is fully confidential, takes two days to carry out and approximately one month to edit and write up. The team which carries out the assessment is highly trained in this area and used to dealing with all types of event.
