Foundation Degree Business Management for the Security Industries

This new course has been designed to develop individuals in the security industries with management potential. It will provide you with the business knowledge and management skills you need to make a real impact in the sector and progress in your chosen career. Your employer will benefit from your enhanced skills and increased business understanding, enabling you to be more effective at work. In addition you will carry out project work that will provide solutions to business and quality problems.

Bucks has extensive expertise in the crowd safety management and security sectors and this course has been added to the existing suite of courses as a result of market research.

Participating on the course may help you to progress in your career. On successful completion of the programme you can:

Course content

The first year modules are as follows:

  •  Security Industries, Organisations and Environment: analysing the business and industry environment, government, legal and international
  • Marketing in Security Industries: exploring marketing concepts and practice in relation to the security industries
  • Organisations and Behaviour in Security Industries: understanding human behaviour in security industries organisations
  • Financial Resources: awareness of finance and financial information
  • Personal Development: developing your skills in the workplace
  • Threat and Risk Assessment: exploring the importance of assessing threat and risk.

The second year modules are as follows:

  • The Legal Framework of Security: awareness of the legislation for security industries
  • Managing Operations and Quality in Security Industries: operations, supply chain management and quality.
  • Information systems: the importance of information systems, decision support systems and e-business
  • Managing People in Security Industries: managing human resources within the organisation.
  • Managing Staff Performance in Security Industries: the skills of the line manager in relation to staff performance and human resources.
  • Work-based Learning Project: applying learning across the programme to a work-based project or problem.
 

Entry requirements

To gain a place on the programme applicants will be working for a security organisation and will normally be over 21 years of age with relevant work experience.

If you are under 21 but over 18 with an A-level or equivalent you may be considered for the course if you can demonstrate that you have an appropriate and supportive work situation.
